As promised last week in my skirt and sleeves tutorial for my Colorado bear, here’s an easy tutorial for the Colorado appliqué I made.

This appliqué is designed to be sewn over two rows of single crochet stitches. I used the hat pattern from Animal Friends of Pica Pau and crocheted rounds 15-16 in white and the rest in royal blue. That’ll give you your Colorado base.

Materials Needed

Skills Needed

  • Magic circle
  • Single crochet stitches (sc)
  • Increases – make two single crochets in one stitch (inc)
  • Simple sewing

Colorado Appliqué Tutorial

Rnd 1. Make a magic circle in yellow. Make 6 scs in the magic circle. On the last sc, before you pull through, change to red and pull through to complete the stitch. (6)

Rnd 2. In red, make 1 sc inc into the next 5 stitches. Stop there, leaving the last sc unworked. Fasten off and leave a tail long enough to sew. (10)

Sew it centered on the white stripe. Weave in your ends.

See, I said it was easy! Colorado pride! I may live in Texas now but I grew up in Colorado and most of my family is still there. The CO love is strong. The smell of that pine never gets old for me.
