Are you looking for an affordable and widely available cotton yarn for your amigurumi? Check out my review for Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton to see if it checks your boxes.

This yarn is the cotton version of Hobby Lobby’s popular acrylic I Love This Yarn (ILTY). With a wide range of solid and variegated colors, I Love This Cotton is an easy choice for amigurumi! But how does it hold up? Keep reading for my review!

I Love This Cotton is a 100% cotton 4-weight yarn, also known as aran or worsted. One skein weighs 3.5 ounces, contains 180 yards and will set you back $3.79. I count 68 colors online but those could vary by store. I typically use a C/2.75mm hook with this yarn.

So how does it hold up to the demands of amigurumi? Pretty darn well, in my opinion.

Pros of I Love This Cotton

The yarn holds its shape well, doesn’t stretch out, has minimal fuzz, and is sturdy to crochet with but doesn’t hurt my hands. I have a few amigurumi made from I Love This Cotton in my house that are a couple years old and still look great.

Hugo the Bat is crocheted with purple I Love This Cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby.

Hugo the Bat’s medium purple color is I Love This Cotton. He’s quite well-loved in our house and is still shaped perfectly and holding together well.

A crocheted koala bear sits atop greenery. He is made mostly of Hobby Lobby yarn I Love This Cotton.

Logan the Koala is also made mostly of I Love This Cotton and still looks relatively new despite being dragged to multiple school pick-ups and drop-offs.

Cons of I Love This Cotton

If I could find a complaint with I Love This Cotton it would be its lack of shine but that’s probably more indicative of the fiber itself and not necessarily the brand. In my experience you need an acrylic blend or mercerized cotton to get that shine.

Conclusion

In review, Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton is an amigurumi workhorse for me. I have a storage bin full of it. I’ve crocheted many bears and tigers with it due to its affordability and local availability.

This baseball tiger is made entirely of I Love This Cotton from Hobby Lobby.

Hi, I’m going to make a bathing suit cover for my sister for Christmas and am wondering how you think this yarn will hold up? Getting wet and being pulled at and stretched while wet? I’ve been looking at 100% Cotton brands. I would appreciate your reply asap.
    Thank you, Melissa

Hi Melissa – I’m sorry I missed this! I know it’s past Christmas but I think it holds up pretty well. I have multiple washcloths made with this and they’re holding up just fine after a year plus. Hope that helps!
