In this yarn review I check out a workhorse by WeCrochet: Comfy Worsted. How will it perform for amigurumi?
Cotton + Acrylic
For those who prefer a blend of cotton and acrylic or maybe just can’t make up their minds, meet Comfy Worsted: a yarn from WeCrochet that blends 75% pima cotton with 25% acrylic. A cotton/acrylic blend is already my favorite type of yarn for amigurumi so I was excited to see how this particular yarn would perform. Would I have a new favorite?
WeCrochet sent me some skeins of Comfy Worsted to try out for my next project, and I LOVED them. Comfy Worsted glides easily across the hook and doesn’t split. I used a C/2.75mm hook, my usual for worsted weight yarn, and I had no issues with gaps or holes in my amigurumi. In fact, I think I had LESS gaps, even on decreases. I also used a darker yarn so the gaps, if any, would be easier to see.
Comfy Worsted yarn adds just the right amount of fuzz to your project, making it a forgiving yarn for your amigurumi. Stitches are well defined and there’s no halo of fuzz around the project – it just fills out your stitches. The 75/25 blend seems to be a great ratio for maintaining stitch definition and structure but also adding a bit of stretch.
For Comparison’s Sake
I decided to compare Comfy Worsted to my other most-used amigurumi yarns. Comfy Worsted and Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton are both worsted weight, yet Comfy appears to be a little thinner. Perhaps it’s the acrylic that slims it down a bit? You can see that it’s still thicker than the 8-ply DK weight of Bernat Softee Baby Cotton (a blend of 60% cotton and 40% acrylic).
You can bet I’ll be returning to this yarn for future amigurumi projects! Keep following the blog for the release of Everett the Backpacking Bear, designed in Comfy Worsted. Everett will be a FREE pattern here on Moonbeam Stitches!
